Ohio（1970年）

この曲を忘れていました。中3の一学期はCSN&Yの『4 Way Street』を毎日聞いていたような気がします。『Ohio』は『4 Way Street』に収められた一曲です。当時、この曲の背景に関しては、ベトナムの反戦歌であるということ以外は全く知りませんでした。この曲は、1970年5月のオハイオ州ケント大学の銃撃事件を題材にしています。ベトナム戦争をカンボジアに拡大しようとする政府に反対する学生のデモに対してオハイオ州の州兵が発砲し4人の学生が亡くなり多数の負傷者を出したのです。

2007年から2年間、仕事の関係で毎週のようにNYの自宅からオハイオに出張しました。同世代のアメリカ人のパートナーとこの曲の話で盛り上がりました。そして、我々以外のメンバーは全員が若く、 Kent State Massacre もCSN&Yの『Ohio』も知りませんでした。プロジェクトメンバーの中にはウクライナからの移民も混じっていました（優秀な若者でした）。

I almost forgot about this song. In the first semester of the 3rd year of junior high school, I listened to CSN&Y's "4 Way Street" album every day. "Ohio" is a song from "4 Way Street". At the time, I didn't know anything about the background of the song, other than that it was an anti-war song in Vietnam. The song is based on the May 1970 shooting at the Kent University in Ohio. The Ohio National Guard opened fire on a student demonstration against the government's attempt to expand the Vietnam War to Cambodia, killing four students and injuring many others.

For two years from 2006, I traveled from my home in New York to Ohio almost every week due to work. I had a lot of fun talking about this song with my American partner of the same generation. Other than us two, all the project members were young, and they didn't know Kent State Massacre or CSN&Y's Ohio. Some of the project members were immigrants from Ukraine (they were excellent young consultant).
